CIRCOR Aerospace, Inc. (CAI) hosted representatives from Hamilton Sundstrand Space Systems and Lieutenant Commander Christopher Cassidy from the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA). Lt. Cmd. Cassidy is a mission specialist scheduled for the April 2009 STS - 127 Space Shuttle mission in support of the International Space Station completion.
Hamilton Sundstrand and NASA recognized the long history of support from CIRCOR and the Circle Seal line of precision controls for critical space applications. The team emphasized the importance of process controls in the manufacturing environment, to ensure mission safety and successful execution of the upcoming mission. CIRCOR, though the Fluid Controls Systems - Circle Seal-branded products, has supported the U.S. Space program since the 1950s. A CIRCOR Aerospace safety critical, pressure relief valve is employed in the battery pack of the Hamilton Sundstrand spacesuit that Lt. Commander Cassidy will wear during his spacewalks in 2009.
Eric Hillewaert, Program Manager for the Hamilton Space account commented, "Our daily focus on quality and safety was reinforced by meeting the ultimate user for our products and better understanding the human factors of the mission that our products enable for the US Space Program." The CIRCOR Aerospace Corona, California business recently celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the Circle Seal brand of fluid controls and remains actively engaged in space, marine, defense and aircraft fluid system design, manufacture and development.
